# CloudHawk ELD Driver Guide - Android

Who is this article for? Standalone ELD customer.  If you are an **emdecs one** customer, some steps may differ. Where noted, refer to your **emdecs one** portal for the integrated view.

Under the Canadian ELD mandate, a driver manual (user manual) for the ELD device is required to be kept on board the commercial motor vehicle (CMV). This is part of the ELD information packet that the motor carrier must ensure each CMV carries.

Here's why a driver manual is required:

**Operating the ELD:**  
The manual provides instructions on how to properly operate the ELD, including setting it up, using its features, and recording hours of service (HOS) data.

**Data Transfer:**  
The manual explains the data transfer process and mechanisms supported by the ELD, including how to transfer HOS records to authorized officials when required.

**Malfunction Procedures:**  
The manual outlines how to report malfunctions and the record-keeping procedures to follow during an ELD malfunction.
