How to create a new asset (Vehicle or Trailer)
Assets are any piece of capital equipment that you want to track in EMDECS one. This is primarily vehicles and trailers, but also include equipment such as a mobile diagnostic station.
Vehicles & Trailers
Vehicles are any asset that can move around under its own power at the direction of a driver. This includes standalone trucks and semis but also assets like a switcher. Trailers are items that require some other unit to be attached to it before they’re useful, such as trailers and dollies.- Begin by selecting either Assets > Vehicles or Assets > Trailers from the left-hand menu bar. This shows you basic information about vehicles already entered into the system:

- Select the main screen’s New Asset button. This opens a side panel showing a blank form for entering the new asset’s details:

Mandatory fields when adding a new Vehicle or Trailer are:
◦ Unit Number
◦ Make
◦ Model
◦ VIN
◦ Year
◦ License Plate
◦ Type (either Vehicle or Trailer)
◦ Colour
Optional fields when adding a new Vehicle or Trailer are:
◦ Purchase Date
◦ Purchase Price
◦ Repair Cost to Date
◦ Net Book Value
◦ Notes (for general information)
◦ Accident History
◦ Notes (related to the accident history) - Once you have added all the mandatory details and any optional details you would like to track, click the Save button. If you’ve missed any of the mandatory details, EMDECS one will let you know; otherwise it will save the unit’s details, close the Vehicle Details panel, and add the asset to the list of them in the main Assets screen.
NOTE: If, after saving your asset, you notice that any of the details you entered is incorrect, you can edit them by clicking on their Unit Number. This opens the side panel again and lets you edit them however you like. Once you’re done, click the Save button again.
